Miriam Deasy started composing love songs in 1948 after falling in love with her husband Chuck. Her creations morphed into lullabies and hiccup songs while raising 7 kids and later enjoying 19 grandchildren. Miriam wrote a series of nationwide radio advertising jingles for the American Automobile Association (AAA). Not professionally trained in music, Miriam has the good fortune to collaborate with her son Steve, a musical genius who created wonderful arrangements and most of the piano and guitar backgrounds. After posing the family for the annual 1960 Christmas photo, Miriam wrote two holiday favorites 'The Magic of Christmas' and 'Homer' which are included as bonus tracks on AMID THE TOYS making this CD the perfect holiday stocking stuffer. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the 'Magic Of Christmas' was used as the theme for KDKA's Telethon for Pitssburgh's Children's Hospital 3 years in a row during the 60's. More recently, it was included in one of QVC's Christmas CDs the proceeds of which enabled Miriam to fulfill a lifelong dream and independently produce her CD just shy of her 80th birthday making her the 'Grandma Moses of Songwriting'. Now residing in Hawaii or wherever the military sends her daugter and son-in-law, both Lieutenant Colonels in the US Army, G'ma helps care for her two youngest grandchildren who provide lots of inspiration for her songwriting. Collaborator Steve Deasy is a Pittsburgh born, Detroit based performing songwriter, producer and arranger. His songwriting has been recognized by the Kerrville Music To Life and Great Lakes Songwriting competitions. Steve is a socially conscious writer in the tradition of Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger, but with the contemporary musicality of new folk, classic rock, pop, and jazz influences. Add some humorous Steve Goodman-style story songs and you have Steve Deasy: relevant, complex, funny and talented.
